Since its inception in 1924 as a small rural mission, Willowdale Baptist Church has grown in step with the community of North York. We are an urban city church where people from all over the world gather as a Christian family to worship God and live life together. We are just steps away from Yonge and Finch, and the Finch subway station.
Affiliated with the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Canada, we are an independent congregation supported through the tithes and offerings of committed members and friends.
Our facilities include a large air conditioned auditorium, spacious foyer, full gym, library, fellowship hall, and various meeting rooms.
Our desire is to be a community of believers excited to live out God's love.
We believe the Bible to be the complete Word of God: that the sixty-six Books, as originally written, comprising the Old and New Testaments, were verbally inspired by the Spirit of God and entirely free from error; that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice and the true basis of Christian union.
We believe in one God, Creator of all, holy, sovereign, eternal, existing in three equal Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We believe in the absolute and essential deity of Jesus Christ, in His eternal existence with the Father in preincarnate glory, in His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension, mediatorial ministry and personal return.
- The Holy Spirit
We believe in the absolute and essential deity and personality of the holy Spirit Who dwells within the believe and Who convinces of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement; Who regenerates, sanctifies, illuminates and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ.
We believe that Satan exists as an evil personality, the originator of sin, the acrh-enemy of God and man.
We believe that man was divinely created in the image of God; that he sinned, becoming guilty before God, resulting in total depravity, thereby incurring physical and spiritual death.
We believe that salvation is by the sovereign, electing grace of God; that by the appointment of the Father, Christ voluntarily suffered a vicarious, expiatory and propitiatory death; that justification is by faith alone in the all sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and that those whom God has effectually called shall be divinely preserved and finally perfected in the image of the Lord.
- Future Things
We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ; in the resurrection of the just and unjust; in the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and in the judgment and conscious, eternal punishment of the wicked.
- The Local Church
We believe that a Church is a community of immersed believers, called out from the world, separated unto the Lord Jesus, voluntarily associated for the ministry of the Word, the mutual edification of its members, the propagation of the faith and the observance of the ordinances. We believe it is a sovereign, independent body exercising its own divinely awarded gifts, precepts and privileges under the Lordship of Christ, the Great Head of the Church.
- The Universal Church
We believe in the Church Universal, a Spiritual Body, composed of believers of all ages and times who are united to God by faith in Jesus Christ. It is described in Scripture as the building of God, the temple of God, the body of Christ, and the bride of Christ.
We believe that there are only two ordinances of the Church regularly observed in the New Testament in the following order:
- Baptism, which is the immersion of the believer in water, whereby the individual obeys Christ's command and sets forth his or her identification with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection.
- The Lord's Supper, which is the memorial wherein the believer partakes of two elements, bread and wine which symbolize the Lord's body and shed blood, proclaiming His death until He come.
- The Church and State
We believe in the entire separation of Church and state.
- Religious Liberty
We believe in religious liberty; that every individual has the right to practice and propagate his or her beliefs.
- The Lord's Day
We believe that the first day of the week is the Lord's Day, and that, in a special sense, it is the divinely appointed day for worship and spiritual exercise.
- Civil Government
We believe that civil government is of divine appointment for the interest and good order of society; that government officials are to be prayed for, conscientiously honoured and obeyed except only in the things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the only Lord of the conscience and Prince of the kings of the earth.
Rev. Bruce Jones
Bruce grew up in a loving Christian home in Stratford, ON and became a committed disciple of Jesus Christ at a young age. After graduating from Tyndale University College in 1987, Bruce married the love of his life, Ruth Morton, and they worked as camp directors at Fair Havens Ministries for three years. Sensing God's call into church ministry, Bruce became a youth and young adult pastor at Memorial Baptist Church in Stratford for eight years, followed by almost 18 years as senior pastor at Olivet Baptist in Meaford, ON.
New to Willowdale in 2016, Bruce is excited to work with the amazing leaders in our community-minded congregation. Bruce and Ruth have two young adult children, Bethany and Caleb, who are both pursuing post-secondary education and serving Jesus every day. Bruce and Ruth believe that our highest goal, as followers of Christ, should be to learn to love well; loving God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength... and loving others as we love ourselves. (Mark 12: 30,31)
Interim Ministry Leader
God has given Benjamin a vision and passion to encourage, empower, and challenge God's people in the local church to live a life identified with Christ Jesus and fulfilling their purpose through Him. Benjamin is a graduate from Tyndale Seminary with a Master of Divinity focusing on theology, counselling, and urban ministry. He oversees all Children and Family ministry, Life Groups, and our monthly Community Dinner. Benjamin is adamant that these ministries have a discipleship and outreach component so people can not only hear the gospel and respond but grow in their walk with their personal Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Benjamin's prayer is for the church to be shocked and amazed by the work of our God and grow closer together as a loving community of believers.
Prior to ministering at Willowdale Baptist Church, Benjamin ministered to the homeless in downtown Toronto through the Gateway men's shelter and Co-founded the Love Movement and was Co-executive producer of the Christian television series Love is Moving. Benjamin and his wife Christina have two daughters and enjoy fellowship with friends and family.

A graduate of the University of Toronto's Bachelor of Music in Performance program, Daniel found that he had a gift of composing and improvising original music and began to use it to serve God, writing numerous songs for soloists, gospel choirs, contemporary worship, jazz & urban contemporary ensembles. And since 2007 Daniel has been the musical co-ordinator and songwriter for Roatan Alive Mission. Out of the experiences with Hopeward Music touring, studio work, solo performance, collaboration with other artists, and now serving as the Willowdale Baptist Church Music Coordinator, Daniel developed a passion for mentoring musicians and worship leaders of all ages to lead the local church in worship.
